In our chat, we discuss how anyone and everyone can be affected by mold. We take a look at how new home construction doesn’t automatically mean it’s mold-free. The foundation can already be moldy from construction by the time people move in. Michael experienced this himself with his new home build in Florida.
We go over how the less thought of areas, like attics and crawl space, and how they can be the root causes for molds in a home. Air circulates throughout the entire house, so take a good look at every square inch to determine if you have mold or not. No matter where it is, it can affect your health.
For those that can’t move out of a home contaminated with mold, remediation will be required. Look for companies that can hit these three steps:
- Remove the colony
- Correct the situation that allowed for mold in the first place (like humidity levels)
- Remove the contamination created by the sources (as much mold, bacteria, and toxins present as possible)
The goal of a remediation company should be to help people; lessening that toxic load one step at a time. We discuss how to find a company that will do the job properly the first time. It’s your health on the line, so you deserve someone with your best interests at heart.
Mold remediation in general is very circumstantial. Just because you have one way that works for someone doesn’t mean it will work for someone else.
When it comes to what needs to be tossed after remediation, it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation. It can be very costly, but we have to prioritize our health. The best method is to take it all out and reintroduce things little bit by little bit to determine what things you absolutely have to replace.
We also go through cleaning products that work well for those looking for prevention or who can’t afford remediation yet. Prevention will save money in the long run.
