Ethernet Troubleshooting

A wired connection is the steadiest way to keep Guardian online. If it’s not connecting, start here.

Before you begin

Start With The Basics

A quick gut-check before the steps below. If one of these is off, start there.

Guardian is powered on and the screen is lit.

The cable is secure at both ends.

Your router or switch is on and the port is active.

Work through these

Find What’s Happening

Tap the one that matches, then work down the steps and stop when it’s sorted.

  1. Unplug and reconnect the Ethernet cable at both ends. Make sure it’s fully seated in Guardian and in your router, switch, or wall port.
  2. Guardian has two Ethernet ports, one on the back and one on the bottom. Try the other port to rule out a bad connection.
  1. Open Settings, Internet, Ethernet.
  2. Select the port you’re using (Back or Bottom).
  3. Confirm Guardian shows network details like an IP address. If it does, it’s talking to your network.
  1. Confirm the network port is active.
  2. Try a different Ethernet cable.
  3. Try another port on your router or switch.
  1. Open Settings, Device Details, View Details.
  2. Tap Check next to the firmware version.
  3. Install any available update, then check the connection again.
  1. Press the power button and choose Restart.
  2. Let Guardian fully restart, then check the connection again.
Still on a managed or business network? Some networks need extra setup (static IP, firewall rules, allowlists) before a new device can connect. See our Advanced Network Configuration guide, or reach out to HomeCleanse for the specifics.
Good to know

Common Questions

Quick answers to the things people ask most.

Yes, anytime, through the Internet settings menu — see the Wi-Fi Troubleshooting guide.

This is usually a network-security or allowlist setting on a managed network. Our Advanced Network Configuration guide covers it, or contact HomeCleanse and we’ll send your network admin what to allow.

Both work well. Ethernet is the most stable; Wi-Fi gives you more flexibility on where Guardian sits.

We’ll Take It From Here

If Guardian still won’t connect over Ethernet and nothing above did the trick, don’t wrestle with it. Call or text and a real HomeCleanse guide will pick up where this page left off.
