Choosing The Best Location For Your Guardian
Where you place Guardian directly shapes the quality of what it measures. A few simple choices help it read the air you actually breathe.
Why Placement Matters
Guardian measures the air immediately around it. Put it in the right spot and its readings represent the air people are actually breathing; put it in the wrong spot and airflow, heat, or sunlight can pull the numbers away from reality.
The manufacturer’s guidance is simple: install Guardian within the occupied “breathing zone” and away from anything that disturbs the air around it.
Where To Place It, And Where Not To
Two short lists cover most homes. Aim for the left column, steer clear of the right.
Recommended
- A Room You Actually UseA central, regularly occupied area, not a closet or hallway.
- 3 To 6 Feet Off The Floor, UprightRoughly three to six feet up, in the breathing zone, sitting upright. On a tabletop, use a stand.
- On The Wall Is BestWall mounting is ideal for a permanent spot. On a tabletop, a stand keeps it upright and steady.
Avoid
- HVAC Supply & Return VentsKeep Guardian 1 to 3 feet from any supply or return vent, and out of the direct airflow path.
- Windows, Doors & HeatersOutside air and local heat distort the readings, so keep a clear gap from all three.
- Sunlight & Pollution SourcesDirect sun skews temperature, and nearby pollution sources throw the numbers off.
Give It Room To Breathe
Keep Both Vents Clear
Guardian pulls air in through the bottom vent and pushes it out the top. Blocking either one restricts airflow and affects accuracy, so leave a little open space above and below it.
A Few More Rules Of Thumb
Mount It Upright
Install Guardian in its normal upright position. Sideways or upside-down affects accuracy.
Give People Space
Where you can, keep about 3 ft (0.9 m) from desks and chairs, or face it away from where people sit.
Skip The Ceiling
Warm air rises, so ceiling readings don’t reflect the air below, especially temperature and humidity. For larger open areas, plan on roughly one monitor per 5,000 square feet, depending on layout and occupancy. Give each separate room its own monitor, and keep Guardian about three feet from any desk or workstation.
Helpful Tips
- 1Install Guardian where people spend the most time, not just where it’s easiest to mount.
- 2Before mounting for good, check that power and a network connection reach your chosen spot.
- 3If you move Guardian after it’s been running a while, restart the sensor baseline so it re-learns the new room.
