Guardian sensor capsules are designed to be easily replaced, helping maintain the accuracy and long-term performance of your monitor. When it is time for a replacement, the process takes just a few minutes and requires no specialized tools. New capsules arrive factory-calibrated and ready to install right out of the box.

When Should I Replace My Sensor Capsules?
Guardian continuously monitors sensor health to help you know when replacement may be needed. Under normal operating conditions, Guardian recommends replacing sensor capsules approximately every 15 to 24 months, depending on the sensor type and your operating environment.

You Will Need
Three things, nothing special.
Replacing Your Sensor Capsules
Take it one step at a time. Each step pairs the instruction with a photo or short video, so you can match what you see to what is in your hands.
Power It Off
Power off your Guardian before removing any sensor capsules.
Powering down protects the capsule and the sensor contacts while you work.
Open the Compartment
Open the sensor compartment on the bottom of the Guardian.
The compartment sits on the underside of the device.
Remove the Old Capsule
Carefully remove the existing sensor capsule. Avoid twisting or forcing it.
It should lift straight out. If it resists, ease it rather than force it.
Seat the New Capsule
Insert the new sensor capsule. Push firmly until you hear the audible click, confirming it is fully seated.
New capsules arrive factory-calibrated, so there is nothing to set up.
Listen for the clickClose Up and Power On
Reattach the bottom panel and power your Guardian back on.
Guardian restarts on its own. You will confirm the new sensor next.
Verify the New Sensor
After your Guardian restarts, open Settings, select Sensors, then open Sensor Health. The newly installed sensor should report 100% health, indicating it has been successfully recognized by the device.

Reseat the capsule and listen for the click again, then recheck Sensor Health. If it still looks off, reach out and we can help.
What Happens After Installation?
Your replacement capsule arrives factory-calibrated, so Guardian is ready as soon as it recognizes the new sensor. Once Sensor Health shows the capsule active, Guardian goes right back to tracking your indoor environment.

No Reset Needed
Replacing a capsule does not require restarting the baseline.
When Should You Restart the Baseline?
Replacement capsules arrive factory-calibrated. A reset mainly matters when Guardian’s surroundings change:
Do it outdoors with no people or other CO₂ sources within about 5 meters (16 feet). The restart takes about a minute.
